Friendship is Magic fans angered by new song about the Magic of Friendship



Yesterday, Hasbro posted a Music Video from Season 8 on their official Youtube channel, featuring a song called "Friendship Always Wins". It was clearly put up by mistake as it was scrubbed from the official channel, and any re-uploads were struck down for copyright infringement. The video shows the students at the upcoming Friendship school and how they come from all the different lands and friendly sentient races that have been shown in the show thusfar.

This of course, pissed off a lot of people.

The show called "Friendship is Magic" has spent the last several seasons world-building, with the main characters building alliances and friendships with all manner of different species of creatures, from Dragons to Changelings, Yaks to Griffons, and even Hippogriffs in the theatrical film. Twilight, as fans now know, was originally envisioned as being a sort of successor to Celestia at the school for magic, and has been sharing her knowledge on the subject of friendship with all who will listen for many years now.

All of this is completely meaningless however, because it is the current year, and everything must relate to the current President of the United States, and therefore a song about friendship in a show about magical ponies MUST be political in nature. Many anonymous posters took to /mlp/ to speak out against what they saw as a slight against the strong anti-liberal conservative values that the show was apparently founded upon.




 




Others were less convinced.

      I more or less still enjoy the show... well, I mean I'm able to get some amount of enjoyment from it though it's a shadow of its former self. But I agree the character design has gone to absolute shit recently (staring with S5 or especially S6). I haven't kept up on who has left the crew etc, but I'm guessing the art director and/or character designers from old seasons have been replaced with people who don't know what tf they are doing. Even just the color schemes are SO BAD. Earlier seasons almost always used complimenting pastel (slightly desaturated) color schemes. Newer characters (including glimmer) often use highly saturated "neon" colors which is one of the hallmarks of poor color design. It looks like someone's first Flash character.

      This is only one very specific complaint obviously but it is this along with many many other "small things" which have changed, which when put together create a very large shift in the quality and tone of the show.

    I just don't like real life human issues infesting a show taking place in a different world with ponies instead of humans. The most ponies should have to deal with is the occasional villain. I mean I get that ponies have had tensions with some other species living in their world, but for the most part it was nothing compared to what we deal with. I watch MLP to escape from real life. War, racism, poverty, politics, social justice... I want none of that.

    I used to be a liberal, but within the past 3 years I no longer felt like the party represented my ideas, so I left. And for a little while the right wing had me agreeing with them on some issues. But right now it looks like both sides of the political spectrum are two heads of the same beast. You have the vagina hat antifa tards on one side, and the alt right natsoc tards on the other. As far as I'm concerned they are 'ALL' SJWs. Needless to say I'm an independent centrist now, awaiting political Armageddon. We all know it's coming. Wait it out with me.

      I hate too say it, but Diamond Tiara is mostly right on this one. I don't think we should retread into fanfiction to have a good experience since most of the episodes still, or again, allow me to just sit back and enjoy an episode of horse show, but I can't deny that the writers haven't fully utilized the potential that this show had and has. A big reason that this is happening I think is that they don't even watch the show, or rarely and that it's still a children's show.

      Also, since I'm writing anyway, I don't think this is a question between the SJW and /pol/ per say. It can't be denied, in my opinion, that the show is teaching leftist morality and lessons to it's audience, it is however not because the show makers are all rapid SJW, but because the west and for a large part the world in general is broadly leftist and thus the show is teaching the lessons they see as normal. We were taught all these lessons of tolerance and strength in diversity in school and they are echoed in the rest of society including our media.
      The show is in this regard not betraying it's roots because the show from the very beginning was about, for example, how the 3 races of ponies came together in friendship and harmony to be stronger together and we also only have to look at Lauren Faust to see that she is pretty left too.
      The difference now, I think, is that it's more noticeable and less tactful in it's presentation, which, understandably, can make some viewers less inclined to watch the show.

    With a song that has an infantile title like that (not talking about the politics thing as I do not wish to discuss such topics or get into arguments over them), this show clearly has become the new Barney and Friends (becoming a show where it seems all it does now is teach children to sit and stare at the TV and talks down to them)...that thread, this is why I don't go on 4chan.

    And the Friendship School is a shitty concept (MLP should be an escape from school), all the new characters look like they're bad OCs from a bad fanfiction, the movie was so bad it feels more like a horrible fan film...

    All I'm gonna say is, bring on G5, G4's show from season 6 onwards and its fanbase have had so much negative energy pouring out of them it's a miracle, a bad one, that they're both still going. Then again, from what I saw on some graph, this show lost nearly 700,000 viewers...
