Ever since the demise of the Hub Network and the announcement of an actual pony movie coming down the line, there have been many questions about the future of the ponies, and where their home might end up. Well a few pieces of news came to light last night which may lend some answers, and some hysteria.
Announced on Deadline.com last night, Hasbro is in negotiations to buy Dreamworks animation.
According to other news outlets, Hasbro is worth roughly $7 Billion whereas DreamWorks is worth roughtly $2 Billion, so the merger may make sense from a business aspect. This has of course left many to question if this is a good thing, or a bad thing, in terms of the show's potential future quality or creative freedoms.
More importantly, people want to know if this would mean a CGI pony film...featuring "The Dreamworks Face".
This is an interersting development to be announced so shortly after the announced creation of "Allspark Pictures"; the new studio created by Hasbro slated to be producing the upcoming My Little Pony Movie.
It has been pointed out by many, that Dreamworks HAS done 2D animation in the past, with such films as The Prince of Egypt, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, and Road to El Dorado.
Make it happen. |
The announcement mentions that he will be managing the upcoming My Little Pony film.
How this will affect the franchise? Who the hell knows, but it sounds like he's been basically running this shit for a while anyway.
Finally, we're getting the MLP/Shrek crossover movie that we've been asking for!

DeleteTo quote Han Solo: "I have a bad feeling about this."
ReplyDeleteYou mean "quote every Star Wars character ever?"
DeleteAnyway, if I was in charge of Dreamworks, I would politely refuse. In today's world of monopolies and Megacorps, it is important to keep your face.

Oh, look. Another one of my posts is headlining Horse News again. Yay.
ReplyDeleteWhen I see Stephen Davis's face I want to punch it. He looks like the kind of guy that would saddle up to Lauren Faust's cubicle or whatever, lean against the wall with a coffee mug and say "Yeeeeah Ms. Faust, I was talkin with the Bobs & we were just thinkin, now that your show's a big hit & all, never mind about that creative freedom thing we hired you with. You can leave now."
ReplyDeleteIt turns out Innatech was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hasbro Multitainment Technology and Heavy Industrial Concern all along...
DeleteOh shut up. She spoke quite highly of them in places. In places... she wsa critical when she wanted to be. Where the hell did she say they were limiting her too much - not more than she liked, but too much for her to TAKE it anymore?

Now you've got me thinking. If the US can just go into debt to fund everything, why even tax?
