Boycott Commerce but Buy Our Comics


The past few days have been tense for many, as the aftermath of the Ferguson decision continues to build. Pony fans have not been immune to the shitstorm of the politically charged issue. Brought into the fray this evening, is infamous IDW comic writer for the MLP series Ted Anderson, who has become more active on tumblr in the recent days, with some controversial posts on the issue.

Ted, who was NOT ultimately fired by IDW (but got a stern talking to and had to stand in the time-out corner) has been reblogging posts about Ferguson for some time now. The protest movement, coincidentally aligns with the timeframe of the latest Humble Bundle release, which happens to be the very comics he works on.


The My Little Pony Humble Bundle is slated to be available for the next 2 weeks. Which would be great, except for the following post that Ted supports:

A National Boycott of all commerce between November 19th and December 3rd, in protest of the Ferguson grand jury decision. "Do Not Spend One Dollar" one flier reads "#NOTONEDIME"" reads another.


What end this protest could possibly serve is baffling to most everyone as there is no finite target of the boycott. It literally just says to not spend money for that time period, which would include the Humble Bundle itself. So which is it?

We at Horse News offer a solution.

The Humble Bundle is actually a charity effort, and you can decide where your money goes, choosing between the Humble Bundle, IDW, and the Hasbro Children's Fund.


Because boycotting all commerce is as ridiculous as it is nearly impossible, we suggest that if you DO choose to get the bundle, to slide all of your money towards either the Children's fund, or towards the Humble Bundle itself.


Many have been boycotting IDW comics ever since the Anderson Incident, and this opportunity would allow people to acquire all of the comics legally without giving Ted Anderson or IDW a penny, and dumping all of the money into charity instead.

Because THAT would actually HELP people.

    I might just do that. There are several comics I don't have yet and I'm slacking with charities lately. Also, with Humble Bundle, I tend to dump most of the money into the charities anyway.

    I love how this post about the Mexican government hiring the cartel to kill students took five days to get 25+ thousand notes, but this "boycott a thing that has nothing to do with anything" post gets 72+ thousand notes in less than a day because of all these black supremists and all these white people who love patting themselves on the back over helping out those poor, disadvantaged negroes.

      Of course, people aren't going to REALLY boycott Black Friday. That would mean not being able to buy things on sale and that's a sacrifice the American people just can't make.

      I say that jokingly, but Tumblr has proved time and time again that important issues aren't really that important when they require you to do more than get all huffy on the internet.
